Reduce Back Pain with Some Simple Lifestyle Changes
Back pain can really make your life a pain. Everyone will at least suffer from back pain once in their life, it can range from a mild temporary pain to serious chronic pain.
There are many reasons people get back pain, especially in the lower back region (this is where you put the most strain on). The most common causes are too much strain on the muscles, bruising of the muscles, or a sprain or injury to the ligaments.
Basically what happens is when your back muscles are injured, they know up and hurt in order to stop you moving your body and creating further injuries. There are also other more serious reasons that cause back pain, such as arthritis, slipped disks tumors, diabetes and kidney problems, so you should see a doctor.
But usually it is people’s lifestyle that causes back pain. Improper sitting when you sit, lie down and walk can cause great back pain, and this effect is even worse if you are overweight. People are also prone to lift things that are too heavy for them or lift things in the wrong way, thus injuring their back.
Incorrect posture is the highest cause of back pain. Working in an office means sitting at a desk and/or in front of a computer, and most people end up slumping. People also twist or overstretch their backs reaching for things behind them or by moving too fast. Even if you are not at work, most people slouch or have bad posture when they are realxing (for example watching TV).
Gaps in the lower backs of chairs are very bad for your posture and should be avoided. Even if you have a good chair, you have to sit in it right. Its been shown that most people that have ergonomical chairs still lean forwards in their chair so their back moves away from the backrest and so they get no support.
You need to make sure to take breaks and stand up and walk around a bit. Try to walk around at least every half an hour, even a short walk will do. If you sit for long periods of time you will create preassure in your back. Did you know the most pressure is created when you are sitting up, followed by standing, and the least when you are lying down?
If you are a female with bad posture you should try and avoid wearing high heels. Your feet are meant to have your body weight spread across their entire base, and when you wear heels you stop this, putting all the preassure on the front of your foot. This can really create back pain, not to mention a whole lot of other pain, for example knees, feet and neck.
Also be careful when you exercise. If you overdo it you could strain your muscles which will cause you back pain. Also a lot of back injuries are from people who have had bad instructors, whether it be gym, yoga, tennis (from twisting).
Hopefully these simple tips help you to change your lifestyle to reduce and relieve your back pain.
