People in most professions are effected by lower back pain. This goes from jobs that you sit in a chair all day, to jobs that requires you to lift things all day.

There are many reasons for back pain, some are not very serious but some are very serious and need to be analysed by a doctor.

There are a few main reasons for back ache, but these reasons can result from many different things.

The first main reason is back pain due to diseases in the back. This can be from 5 main causes:
1. Injuries – these can include fractures of the spine, rupture of discs in the spine, injuries of back muscles, back strain or back joint injury.
2. Imbalances – this can be because of pregnancy, being overweight, problems in the legs or hips changing the way you walk, or the curvature of the spine.
3. Inflammation – this can be causes because of infections, inflammation of the joints, or inflammation of the muscles.
4. Degenerative diseases – for example arthritis, osteoporosis, or degeneration of the discs in the spine.
5. Tumours – these can be tumours on the actual spine or organs around it (eg. kidneys or intestines)

The second main reason is back pain due to gynaecological problems. For example after childbirth, after an operation, inflammatory disease or more seriously cancer in the pelvic organs.

The third main reason is back pain due to problems in other areas of your body. A lot of people don’t realise that things like stones, ulcers and inflamation in organs on the front of your body can cause a lot of lower back pain.

There are many tests that doctors use in order to investigate the cause of back pain. Some of these include blood tests, urine tests, ultrasonic tests (for the abs and pelvis), x-rays (of the lumbar region), MRI’s (of the spine), CT scans (of the abs and pelvis) and examination of rectum and prostate.

There are many medically proved way to treat back pain. These include removing the cause of back pain (this can be anything from changing your chair to surgery), treating the symptom of back pain, strengthening the back through exercises, and stretching the back through specific stretches and back yoga.

As you cna see there are a lot of different reasons for back pain, and a lot of different ways to treat it. You need to see a doctor in order to diagnose your back pain so you and your doctor can come up with a solution and treatment that suits your individual back pain.

This pillow can provide some instant relief from lower back pain. This really helps me when I sit for a long time in front of the computer. Keep in mind that I always sit with the intentions to have good posture, but ultimately end up slouching or twisting after a few hours.

This pillow has a bigger wheel, which works to massage really well, and a smaller wheel. In a lot of the reviews I have read people say that the smaller wheel does not massage well. What people don’t realise is that this is not the smaller wheels intended purpose. The smaller wheel provides heat to compliment the massage, and also helps to realign after the bigger wheel massages.

It’s also really versatile, as you can use it anywhere (my husband has stolen it a few times to massage his calf muscles after playing sports.) I’ve used the pillow at various times for upper back pain, as well as shoulder pain, and it works really well.

Could it be that the bag you carry around every day with you is giving you lower back pain? Well the answer is yes, if you use your bag in the wrong way, in can cause back pain.

Well bags do really help us stay organised, and they are an essential part of many peoples day, so we will try to outline things you can do to prevent back pain from your bag.

What Causes the Problems

If you have a side bag it can make you lean to one side and this can create lower back pain, as well as straining your shoulders., if you carry a backpack on only one shoulder it can do the same thing.

Badly shaped bags – if you have a bag or backpack that you just find uncomfortable, for example its tight, strap is unsupportive or so thin it stops your circulation, the bag sits in the wrong position. These can all lead to back pain.

Badly adjusted bag – the main culprit of this is teenagers who want to look cool and wear their backpacks really low.

Heavy bags – especially side bags. It is recommended you don’t carry more then 10% of your weight on a daily basis.

Carrying a bag can change the way you walk, the heavier the bag the more this is true.

How to Fix It

Buy a good quality bag – this will give your back more support.

Try out some wheels – I know they don’t look the best, but if you are carrying a heavy load this will really save your back.

Get an area at work where you can store things – so you don’t have to carry it to/from work every day.

Take less stuff, this will make your bag lighter. Just about everyone carries more than they have to.

Plan your work – so you know exactly what you need to carry.

Pack your bag properly – put the heavier things in the bottom center of your bag

Use it properly – don’t go carrying your backpack on a single shoulder. Also if your bag is heavy be careful when you pick it up.

Hopefully these few tips help you find a way to lessen your back pain caused by bad bags.

This chair is developed by a chiropractor to help relieve back pain that comes from sitting at a desk for too many hours. It works by stimulating the same core muscles as used in a balance ball workout routine. Keeping these muscles moving helps to keep them from tightening and cramping up, so you don’t get lower back pain.

This means that while you are sitting at your chair you are strengthening your core muscles (those that help support your back), and it keeps your spine in a neutral aligned position (so you don’t put any extra pressure on it).

A nice thing about this chair is that during your break you can also remove the balance ball to do some workouts or stretches.

Note that you can get some of the benefits of sitting on this chair fro sitting on a balance ball (such as the shock absorbing and strengthening). So if you have a balance ball sit on the for a while (or go into a sports store and sit on theirs) and see how you like it before ordering one.

Also keep in mind that this isn’t designed for tall people (the instructions say it’s suitable for people 5′ to 5′11″ tall), so if you are over 6 feet you are out of luck. I’m short so I have no problems

A lot of people don’t realise how helpful back support pillows can be in reducing back pain. Sitting the wrong way can create a lot of tension in the back, resulting in lower back pain. Having the right pillow when you sleep can undo and prevent a lot of the pressure you put on your back during the day.

Back support pillows fill in the space in between your back and chair, caused by the natural curve of your spine. These pillows give the proper support throughout our neck, shoulders and upper back. This helps keep your back and neck properly aligned, and relieves back tension and pressure. A back support pillow is very comfortable, which makes you feel good, relax, and have a great sleep.

If you have back problems you can get a lot of benefits from using supportive pillows. Pillows that contains a proper and firm filling are better at giving support then soft feathery pillows. People that have back pain are more likely to get the benefits from a firm pillow, filled with a ergonomically shaped supportive foam.

Supportive pillows are comfortable and also support your neck and upper back. However in order for the pillow to function correctly it needs to be positioned at the right height. If you position your pillow too high, it can lead to muscle strain. On the other hand, if the pillow is positioned too low, the neck tends get bent awkwardly and hurt. This means that when you use a one of these pillows, you need to make sure to use it properly for back pain relief.

It is amazing how such a small thing such as what you sleep on can provide such relief. The way you sleep can unaligned your spine, so it’s important to have a pillow to help you sleep in the right posture. This will help relieve back pain and also give you a much better nights sleep.

Lower back pain is preventable. Surprisingly despite knowing it most of the people face this problem. Main causes of the back pain are incorrect sitting, incorrect posture and improper lifting. Sedentary lifestyle is also one of the reasons where we have become lazy and seek shortcuts. A person becomes more susceptible to lower back problem as he ages.

Muscles of the lower back require maintaining their flexibility to carry out normal mobility. When it gets stiff, the back loses its flexibility and becomes more susceptible to injury and discomfort.

Lower back pain generally affects middle aged and young adults regardless of gender that work continuously for long hours on chair with no exercise or those whose nature of work involves carrying heavy loads regularly. Everyone in their life suffers back pain at least once. There are numerous causes for lower back pain from simple muscular strain to spinal cancer. It is, therefore, essential that the back pain should not be ignored and taken lightly.

Broadly we can categorize the causes of back pain into the categories of back pain due to diseases in the back, back pain due to gynecological problems and back pain due to problems in other parts of the body.

The cause of lower back pain could be failing of joint to functions properly and becomes stiff causing muscle pain. Strain and tension to the muscles of the spine is another cause of low back pain. This is the result of more than normal stress laid on this area. This could happen due to over-exertion, injury or continuously seating in a certain posture for longer period. In fact, when we sit in a particular posture for long hours, spinal column absorbs the weight of the body. If the posture is improper the weight will concentrate in certain area of the spine causing fatigue to the soft tissues and muscles between the cervical discs, which become stiff and cause lower back pain.

When suffering from chronic and acute back pain, the chronic back pain is more serious. The causes of chronic lower back pain could be degenerative arthritis, degenerative disc disease etc. Under these conditions, surgery and physical therapy becomes essential.

Acute pain usually occurs due to damaged muscles, ligaments or tendons that occurs to a person all of a sudden. It may be as a result of lifting excessive load or abrupt movement of the body. Acute pain is generally treated with massage therapy, exercise, chiropractic manipulation or anti-inflammatory drugs.

The Lumbar Roll helps to counteract poor posture, which is one of the major causes of back pain. You can attach this roll to a chair or car seat, to help you sit properly to prevent back pain.

You can apparently also attach it to your waist and wear it around, and then have the support wherever you sit down. To me this seems a little weird, as it is bulky and I wouldn’t really want to be walking around wearing it.

I have tried plenty of other cushions and backrests, but the Lumbar Roll is quite good in that it made me feel a lot less pain when I was sitting, and I noticed I had a lot better posture.

However I still think there must be a better alternative out there, as it feels quite stiff and a little bit uncomfortable to have on your seat. Don’t get me wrong, the awkwardness of having something stiff supporting you is still way better than the back pain, I will probably be searching for an alternative.

So is it worth spending so much money just to get a memory foam mattress? Do they really help to relieve your back pain? Well there is not really much question about this anymore. Nowadays there is so much proof and positive research about memory foam mattresses that they are definitely worth the money.

The reason memory foam mattresses are so good is because they give your body so much support while you sleep. This really helps to relieve back pain, as well as a lot of other joint and muscle pains around the body.

The foam the mattress is made of shapes around the contours of your body, so it supports each part of your body in a way specific to the position you are sleeping in. As well as this it also provides great warmth and comfort.

There are a lot of manufacturers making memory foam mattresses these days, so it gives you a lot of options. A few of these are:
a) Tempurpedic – These were the first company to make these type of mattresses, and one of the best choices but can be expensive.
b) Sealy – these are the largest makers of mattresses, and are known to be a good brand. They make three different types, and are the most affordable.
c) Serta – their memory foam mattress is mainly made up of high density foam to support your back. This is also quite a popular choice.

If you are in the market for a new bed, you may as well spend a bit more (the Sealy ones aren’t that much more than a normal mattress that would be good for your back). Mattresses last a long time, and you sleep on them every night, so you should make the investment to sleep well for the next 15 years.

If you can’t afford a new memory foam mattress, you can get overlays. These are basically a thinner version of a memory foam mattress that go over your normal mattress. These aren’t as good as a full memory foam mattress, but they still provide support to the contours of your body.

Just because memory foam mattresses are popular these days doesn’t mean they aren’t good. Research has proven that they are good for your back so they will outlast the fad for people that really need them to help with their back pain.
